Dear K1 Families,

Thank you for all of your flexibility and support this week as we launched our first days in K1 together! Whilst it is not ideal to begin the school year in masks and without having parents on site, we feel that we have made the most of it and are off to a wonderful start!

We are delighted to share that the children were absolute super stars. They entered the K1 pod each morning with joy and confidence. Thank you for all of the work you have done in setting them up for success this week. We are so appreciative of your support and patience as we work our way through some of the social distancing protocols that have required us to change some of the ways that we would prefer to do things.  We have received your feedback regarding the amount of communication you have been receiving from the school - overwhelming!  Please know that we are working on how to streamline this to make it all feel more clear and manageable. In this blog, we will outline a few key pieces of information that we feel are important for you to know.

SeeSaw!

We hope you have signed up to your child's SeeSaw account and are enjoying some pictures from their first week in K1. Please note that you may invite family members to join your child's SeeSaw account! Simply share with them the link to your child's class (this information was shared with you by your child's class teacher in an email earlier this week). Please be sure to let your child's teacher know the names of the family members you would like approved. You can do this by simply emailing your child's teacher after sharing the link with your family member(s).

5 Expectations

You will soon receive a special magnet in your child's blue folder that outlines our 5 Expectations at school:

We keep ourselves and each other SAFE

We are BRAVE when faced with challenges

We RESPECT each other and the environment

We are KINDer than necessary

We have FUN together

Please place this magnet somewhere at home where your child can see it (the refrigerator is a great option!). Please review these powerful words and important expectations with your child in support of them as the newest members of our UWCSEA community of learners.

Early Pick-Up Option

You may notice that your child is very tired by the time they arrive home from school. This is to be expected with our youngest learners as they adjust to life in "big school". Many children at this age still benefit from and need an afternoon nap. Please note that an early pick-up option is available to you. If you would like to pick up your child at 12:00pm, please do so! Simply let your child's teacher know that you would like to pick up your child early (as needed), and we will arrange a pick-up point with you.

No Nuts, Please!

We have a child in our Grade Level with a severe nut allergy. We kindly ask that you do not send in any nuts or nut-related products to school. Keeping our students safe is always our highest priority.

"Hello" in your Home Language (s)

We want to acknowledge the rich language resources that our families bring to our school community.  You will find a white card in your child's bag or blue folder today.  On this white card, please write "hello" in the language or languages spoken in your home.  We are excited to explore the many languages spoken by our K1 students and families, and to compare different scripts.  Be sure to have your child write his/her name at the at the bottom of the card and return it to school anytime next week.

Photos of Children at School

We will be sharing photos with you at the end of each week via a Google Album. You are welcome to download these and save them. These photos and videos are for your personal family use. Please respect the privacy of other members of the community by not widely disseminating photos of children from other families without their permission, for example, through Facebook.

Be sure to check the Dover eBrief on Fridays for college-wide information.

Have a wonderful weekend ahead!

Yours in learning,

The K1 Team
